BMC to repair potholes at 15 junctions

After the commissioner’s order to form a special squad to repair potholes on junctions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has selected 15 junctions in the city for pothole-filling.

Potholes on junctions which see heavy traffic such as Haji Ali, SV Road, Linking Road in Khar- Bandra and JVLR, will be repaired at night.

Four junctions from the island city, eight from the western suburbs and three from the eastern suburbs will be repaired.

Noting the increase in potholes near junctions, which hamper the movement of traffic, Ajoy Mehta, municipal commissioner directed road department staff to act immediately, in his monthly review meeting on Saturday.

After facing flak for not reporting the exact number of potholes, ward officers were asked to review road conditions and the status of pothole filling in their respective wards daily.

The civic body said their list includes complaints by ward level road engineers and those registered through the toll-free number and the mobile application – MCGM 24*7.

According to the BMC’s figures, only 60 potholes are yet to be attended to, of the 284 reported since June 1.

Compared to last year, the BMC said it received fewer complaints this year. Last year, 1422 potholes were reported on July 4.
