Pallavi Purkayastha murder convict may be hiding in J&K

The Nashik police have got information that Sajjad Mogul, the convict in the murder of lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha who jumped parole from Nashik jail, may be hiding in Jammu Kashmir.

According to sources, two teams of the state police – Nashik city and Mumbai police — are trying to locate Mogul. Earlier, a special team of the Nashik police went to Baramulla district, but had to return without any breakthrough.

Shrikant Dhivare, deputy commissioner of police, Nashik, said, “We have certain leads and we are working on it. We are coordinating with the J&K police. I cannot divulge the details of the operation, but we hope to get results soon.”

Mogul was sentenced to life imprisonment in July 2014 and was lodged in the Nashik central jail. Sources said Mogul applied for parole on grounds that his mother was unwell. He was granted parole in February on condition that he would report to a local police station in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Sources said he did not report to the jail by the end of May, after which the prison department filed a case at the Nashik road police station.
