Contractor suspended over craters on Thane flyover

After potholes re-appeared on the Kapurbawdi flyover, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) sent notices to its contractor, asking him to repair the bridge or face a penalty.

“The work on the flyover is not up to the mark. We have withheld his completion certificate until these woes are resolved,” said an MSRDC official. The final five arms of the Kapurbawdi flyover were opened to public in August 2015. The flyover had been constructed by J Kumar, who had been blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

A year later, the final arm, — from Ghodbunder to Mumbai — developed craters. The road of one arm along Rutu Park wore out a month after its inaugruation. Traffic heading towards Nashik and Mumbai from Ghodbunder during the peak hours has been blocked on this arm since the arrival of monsoon last week.

“We are addressing the pothole issue immediately. If the contractor fails to repair the flyover, we will get it done by another contractor and deduct the bills from his pay,” said the official.

He said they had served notices regarding the worn out road along Rutu Park in October last year.

“Once we get a dry spell, we will work on the road,” he said.
