Nigerian arrested in Mumbai for trespassing

A 35-year-old Nigerian was arrested for allegedly trespassing at two locations in Virar on Saturday. The police suspect him to be mentally unstable.

A case has been registered with the Arnala and Virar police stations. The accused allegedly entered a kitchen appliances showroom in Arnala on Saturday evening where a saleswoman showed him around. He then asked to use the washroom inside the showroom.

When he did not come out of the washroom for a while, the saleswoman got worried. She went out and sought help. When neighbouring shopowners called out to him, he did not respond. He emerged half-an-hour later, with his shirt in hand, following which he was chased away by the public. A case was then registered against him.

Around 9.30pm, he allegedly entered a ground floor flat in a building in Virar (W), hurled abuses at the flatowner and began to undress. He was thrashed by building residents and handed over to the Virar police.

The police are trying to obtain details about the accused’s family and residence. He has been remanded in police custody and has been charged under sections 452 (trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code.
