According to police, the tehsildar had laid a trap on Mumbai-Goa highway near Mangaon on Friday night to nab miscreants allegedly transporting illegally dredged sand from a creek. Around 12.30 am, when the team spotted a suspicious truck heading towards Mumbai, they signalled it to halt. But the driver instead accelerated and attempted to run over them and sped away. The tehsildar’s team then gave a chase and intercepted the truck near Wighavali-Indapur. The driver managed to escape then while three others were held. The driver was nabbed five hours later.
