A trustee of Datta Meghe Engineering College in Sector 3, Airoli, has filed a case of cheating and forgery against four key trustees and others.

Avnish Singh (49), an Airoli resident, named co-trustees Dr Subir Kumar Banerjee, Suni Banerjee, Gauri Banerjee alias Bhattacharya and Rituparna Banerjee and others in the FIR. Singh alleged that since 2009, the co-trustees allegedly connived and allegedly illegally transferred approximately Rs 14.55 crore to the bank account of Thane New Horizon Education Society without his knowledge.

Singh also alleged that the accused have forged documents submitted to the charity commissioner’s office in Thane for making their family members members of the college’s trust, thus indulging in forgery for allegedly embezzling the trust’s funds.

Senior inspector Chandrakant Katkar said, “The FIR was registered on Tuesday. Singh, who claims to be the son of a former minister in Madhya Pradesh, alleged that he realized that he was being cheated after the huge amount got reflected in the balance-sheet in 2015, which showed that around Rs 14.55 crore has been gradually transferred to the education society governed by the Banerjee family.”

Katkar said that as the cheating case involved crores of rupees, a parallel investigation was likely to be conducted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police.
