Addressing the issue of Mumbai’s security, CM Devendra Fadnavis, on the anniversary of 26/11, announced that the first phase of CCTV surveillance will begin on November 30 in parts of the island city. “Proud to announce that our Govt will launch ‘Go live’ of Phase one of Mumbai CCTV network on 30th Nov 2015,” he tweeted. The project has earlier faced delays following failure in attracting apt bidders. “It was pending since last 7 years & we completed it in less than 1year. The pan Mumbai surveillance to be launched by same time in 2016,” he added.
CCTV cameras in malls, multiplexes and housing townships will be attached to a state-of-the-art network that will be monitored by cops 24×7. The system will eliminate the panchanama process as live videos will stand testimony to crimes.
