On Thursday, the auto drivers may also join the stir, sources said. Taxi union leader A L Quadros said his members will aggressively protest against the “Mumbai cops for harassing cabbies at Wadala and Bhoiwada”. “At Wadala (RAK Marg), our taxis are lined up in double-parking format as there is shortage of space. The cops often book the drivers and instead of applying the section for double parking, they slap a stringent Indian Penal Code section. It is a harassment to knock out hefty fines from our drivers,” he alleged. Sources in the police said that they caught drivers for “wrong parking” and fined them in accordance with the law.
On Thursday, the Swabhiman taxi union led by Nitesh Rane plans to take a morcha of both auto and taxi drivers to the Ola office. “We will not allow the private taxi aggregators to operate and will lock their premises,” said union member K K Tiwari.
The Rane-led union was previously responsible for two taxi strikes in the city, one in June and another in September. In both the cases, the agitation was against aggregators like Uber and Ola.
