Sena disappointed with Fadnavis’ announcement on Dahisar river project

The Shiv Sena corporators in the BMC expressed their disappointment over chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ plans and funds for the augmentation of Dahisar river.

Sena ex mayor Shubha Raul and leader of the house in the BMC Trushna Vishwasrao along with local corporator from Dahisar Sheetal Mhatre alleged that Fadnavis took credit over revival work of Dahisar river by announcing Rs. 150 crore funds for its augmentation at a time when Sena corporators have already been working on its revival for several years. Sena corporators alleged that the chief minister has not announced any additional funds but the same which was sanctioned by BMC yesterday.

Raul, a corporator from Dahisar said she was highly disappointed over the chief minister trying to take credit. Raul had got the samples of water flowing in the 11km Dahisar River tested in June this year. The test results found a glut of pollutants, apart from its bad odor.

Based on these findings, she had organized a meeting with environmentalists and scientists to see how the river can be revived. “At the BMC level, these funds were already sanctioned. The chief minister should have in fact spoken about the tabelas which are by the river which is not within the BMCs ambit to be removed,” said Raul.

Fadnavis on Monday gave the Rs 150 crore Dahisar river project a fresh lease of life. He wants tourist atractions like backwater boating and kayaking along the river. The state administration has drafted a plan for the same.
