Recently , the BMC found that the supply of water was affected in Lokhandwala and Versova. While examining the problem they unearthed that work on an illegal borewell was car SUPPLY AFFECTED IN ANDHERI, JOGESHWARI ried out in Farhad society in Jogeshwari west. The BMC examined the borewell water and found chlorine in it. A probe revealed that the water was coming from the borehole was from the BMC’s water tunnel.
“The society’s borewell was drawing the water from the tunnel. The police are probing if the office-bearers were aware about it or they were under the impression that water was being replenished from the groundwater table. The water tunnel is nearly 200ft below the surface,” said a senior BMC official. In November 2013, a housing society in Malad east, which commissioned the digging of a borewell, had punctured a subterranean water tunnel because the civic body had wrongly mapped utilities. Pushpanjali society , which was going in for redevelopment, received permission from the BMC to drill a borewell.
