The Thane crime branch investigating the case of eight policemen involved in using cell phones seized from mobile thieves, has suspended the main accused, a head constable. Seven policemen, including the senior police inspector of Bhiwandi crime branch, have been shunted.
Police officials said arrested head constable Sunil Bangar has been suspended on the basis of the preliminary enquiry report filed by DCP Parag Manere. Also, Raj Bhoj, senior police inspector of Bhiwandi crime branch has been attached to the control room while six constables, three from Bhiwandi crime branch and three from Bhiwandi control have been transfered to Thane headquarters.
Officials said Bangar was the main accused among eight policemen who had kept aside 14 mobile phones that they had recovered from a gang of thieves which had stolen over 400 cell phones a from a warehouse in Bhiwandi in April.
The police probing team is also planning to file criminal case against responsible policemen as Thane commissioner Parambir Singh has ordered investigators to take legal action against the responsible policemen so that a strong message can be sent to the police department.
