A 30-year-old Bhandup resident was robbed of his gold chain by two conmen who accused him of pushing a pregnant woman and took off his chain to settle the issue after a heated argument. “Nilesh Manjrekar, was in Wagle Estate for personal work when he was waylaid by the men,” said a police official.
Two unidentified men intercepted the victim aggressively and told him that he has pushed a pregnant woman due to which she has sustained injury and slapped him. “When the victim claimed innocence the accused told him that the woman is waiting near her chawl room and took him a small bylane near medicare hospital to meet her,” said a police officer.
As they came near a small lane, the duo stopped and told him that the issue could be settled if he offers them money he has with him. The victim however said that he is out of cash so they told him to hand over the gold chain he is wearing. Afraid, the victim handed over his gold chain worth Rs 25000 and told him to wait at the spot and threatened him not to move an inch as they will talk to lady by giving the chain, the officer added.
The duo did not return back and realised that he has been duped and approached the Wagle police station.
