Tired of the harassing phone calls from a 22-year-old man seeking to befriend her, a 21-year-old woman allegedly called him to Carter Road promenade in Bandra on Monday night, where four of her friends killed him.
The Khar police on Tuesday arrested the woman and her friends, Arshad Shaikh (22), Danish Shaikh (19), Ejaz Sayyed (21) and Sameer Khan (18) based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s friends.
The police claimed that the woman, who lives in Golibar in Bandra (E), confessed to hatching the murder plan as she was tired of Rizwan Khan’s advances. “She said Rizwan would call her every day and try to befriend her despite her objections. She then decided to bump him off and roped in four of her friends,” said a police officer. Rizwan, who was from her neighbourhood, was employed as a salesman. The police claimed that in the past Arshad had threatened Rizwan to stop harassing his friend.
The police said that on Monday night, she called up Rizwan and asked him to come to Carter Road within half an hour to “talk about their future”. “Rizwan reached the spot with a few of his friends. When he went for a walk with the woman, the four youths charged at him and repeatedly stabbed him,” said the officer.
In the complaint, Rizwan’s friend Saif Mirza said, “We accompanied Rizwan to Carter Road. He asked us to wait as she wanted to discuss something personal and they went for a walk. We have no idea what happened next. When they did not return for some time, we decided to follow them and were shocked to see him lying in a pool of blood on the promenade.” Rizwan’s friends rushed him to hospital and informed the police. Rizwan died in hospital.
The five arrested accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 34 (common intention), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder). They are all in police custody.
