Activist, son ‘attacked’ by lawyers in courtroom

An activist and his son were allegedly beaten up inside a courtroom by a group of lawyers at the Borivli metropolitan magistrate court on Monday. The Borivli police have registered an FIR, but no arrests have been made so far.

Leo Rebello, 65, was present in courtroom no. 67 for a hearing in a 16-year-old case registered with the Samata Nagar police. His son Robin too was present. “The hearing began around 3 pm. Rebello complained that he was arguing before the magistrate when a group of lawyers pounced on him. They rained kicks and blows on his chest after pushing him to the ground. Robin was also manhandled,” said the police.

On-duty police personnel in the courtroom came to Rebello’s rescue. His friend photographed the incident on his cellphone. Rebello alleged that the lawyers used abusive language and issued dire threats to him. He later approached the Borivli police.
