A 16-year-old girl, who was visiting a Ganesh pandal in Virar with her friends on Thursday, was molested allegedly by a 21-year-old man who was known to her. The police said that it seems to be a case of jilted love.Around 7.30pm, the girl, a college student, received a call and moved away from the clique of friends to answer it as loud music was being played at the venue. Just as she was answering the call, someone tapped her on the back. This person, said the police, was the same youth who had called her up.
“He dragged the girl to an under-construction building nearby where he tried to assault her sexually,” said a police officer, adding that the girl managed to slip out of his clutches.
Subsequently, she lodged a police complaint. A case of molestation and stalking was registered. The youth was arrested and later released on bail by a sessions court in Vasai.
