Two drug peddlers have been arrested and Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 1.07 lakh has been seized by the anti-narcotics cell in Mumbra recently.
The cops had received a tip-off that the accused, Pravin Gupta and Sanjay Singh, were going to come to Mumbra to sell the drug. The cops laid a trap in the evening and arrested the accused. When the sleuths carried out a search on them, they found 107gm of MD powder and 3,500 cash.
Gupta is an MD addict himself and runs a small shop at Bhiwandi, while Singh works as a drug peddler, said Mandar Dharmadhikari, senior police inspector of the anti-narcotics cell of Thane.
“We are interrogating the accused and are trying to find out who is supplying the drug to them,” said Dharmadhikari. The duo was produced before a magistrate court and have been remanded to police custody.
A case has been registered under Sections 8-C, 20 (illegally possessing psychotropic drug) and 22 (seizure of narcotic drug) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
