NGT tells three to stop drawing groundwater

MUMBAI: Ahead of summer, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has warned the public against illegal extraction, use and supply of groundwater in the city.

An NGT bench led by Justice U D Salvi recently restrained three residents of Pandya Mansion in Dhobi Talao from drawing water from two borewells in C Ward without obtaining permissions from the BMC, the Central Ground Water Authority and the State Ground Water Authority.

The residents were asked to pay compensation to the complainant. S K Dhoka had complained that T N Pandya, Prakash Pandya and Manoj Pandya were filling water tankers from the wells and blocking traffic.
