Youth shot dead in Jamaica arrives in Mumbai(Vasia)

A week after Rakesh Talreja (25) was shot dead in his home in Jamaica by four robbers, the body of the Vasai youth arrived in Mumbai on Thursday.

Talreja was employed as a salesperson for Caribbean Jewellers in Kingston and was shot dead by four unidentified gunmen in an apparent bid to rob him.

While the killers are still at large, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had assured all help to the family in bringing back the body.

On Thursday, the body arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in a British Airways flight. Family members gathered outside the airport to receive the body. They were inconsolable when they saw the body.Rakesh was to visit his parents later this year. He used to speak to them every Sunday.

On February 9, the gunmen intruded into the victim’s flat. They robbed him and opened fire before leaving. While Rakesh sustained three bullet injuries on the back, two of his Indian room mates got bullet shots on their legs. They are out of danger.

Rakesh had gone to Jamaica two-and-a-half years ago to support his father financially. His brother Mahesh who works in South Africa arrived in the city to be part of his brother’s final journey.

The final rites will be performed later today.
