MUMBAI: A 60-year-old Goregaon resident is one among the 90 job aspirants who has been duped by a job placement agency after promising a job at different levels in a Singapore-based construction company and duped them of over Rs one crore in less than a month-and-a-half.
The fraud came to light when the victim reached the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) on Wednesday morning to take a flight to fly to Singapore. The fraudster promised the victims salary package in between 1,400 and 2,000 Singapore dollars (approximately Rs 60,000 and Rs 95,000) and collected service charges from the victim from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.2 lakhs.
Investigators suspect the number of victims will go up with job aspirants from Delhi, Kolkata and some northern part of India has paid money for the jobs in the same construction company in Singapore for post as workers to site supervisor.
“The total fraud amount may be in crores of rupees with over 300 aspirants suspected to have got duped. The fraudster even did not return back the passports of many of the victims. The visa stamped on the passport was not a job visa and was a 10-day tourist visa which the victims realised only after they went to the airport,” said the investigators.
