Rs 7K in small change stolen from temple

Thane: In the second such incident in the Thane police commissionerate post-demonetisation, after which there has been shortage of ready money, a temple was robbed of Rs7,Police said robbers took away the donation box of Sankeshwar Parshwanath Ratnajadit Jinalay Jain Mandir, a privately-owned temple, located close to the police residential quarters here, broke it open on the road, and fled with the money after abandoning the wooden box.
The temple is managed by Sanjay Ranka, 45, a resident of Kharkar Ali in the old city, who lodged a complaint with Thane Nagar police on Sunday.
Police said Ranka, who owns an apparel store in the city, was away in Erode in Tamil Nadu when the robbery happened. “A close relative who went to the temple on Friday morning found the donation box lying on the road,” senior inspector Mandar Dharmadhikari informed000 in small change last week.
