Four members of a Bhandup family died after a Maruti Esteem car they were travelling in hit a divider and rammed into a tempo at Bhiwandi, near Mumbai, late on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Vasant Arjun Kadre,63, his two sons Sachin, 31, Amit, 35, and Amit’s wife, Sumita, 30. All are residents of Tulsipada in Bhandup.
The Kadres were coming back from Nashik to Bhandup. After losing control of the car, Amit rammed it into a tempo coming from the opposite direction. The car was driven along Mankoki Diva Road at Narpoli, Bhiwandi . The tempo driver who was grievously injured was identified as Bimlesh Pal,31, a Thane resident.
A police officer from Narpoli police station said, “It took some time for us to extricate bodies from the badly mangled car.”
The victims were taken first to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and then to Thane civil hospital. The later succumbed to injuries. “Pal is also serious. We have informed the family members and that the tempo driver has been charged under relevant sections. After post-mortems, the bodies were handed over to the family,” said the officer.
