A man accused of plotting the attack on the Sabarmati Express train that killed 59 people in Gujarat’s Godhra in February 2002 has been arrested.
Farooq Bhana, a former corporator of Godhra municipality, was on Wednesday arrested in Panchmahal district’s Kalol, where he planned to meet his family.
NDTV reports Bhana, who was arrested by Gujarat police’s anti-terrorist squad, attended a meeting of about 20 people in Godhra on February 27, 2002.
The meeting allegedly planned a mob attack hours later on the train, which was carrying Hindu activists returning from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. As many as 59 people were killed after coach number S-6 of the train was torched.
The attack was followed by communal riots in Gujarat that killed more than 1,100 people.
