Vasai town planning officer arrested for offering to pay bribe

Mumbai: A town planning officer of the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has been arrested for allegedly offering to pay bribe to a local Shiv Sena corporator for not pursuing cases against him.
The Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has sealed the Vasai flat of deputy director, town planning, Y S Reddy. A case was registered with the Kasarwadavali police station in Thane on April 28. According to the complainant – Nalasopara Dhananjay Gawde, he was offered Rs 25 lakh by Reddy to not pursue court cases against him. Reddy also wanted Gawde to go slow down on RTI applications.
Gawde, who is fighting with the ruling Bahujan Vikas Aghadi Party (BVA) party to become the opposition leader in the VVMC, had been pursuing cases against Reddy. He had sought several information from the town planning department under the RTI Act.
