Rs 50K reward for info on person who scalded stray

A day after an unidentified person poured boiling water on a stray canine in Thane, a reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for anyone who helps identify the abuser. An animal lover, who found the dog whimpering in pain, took her to Thane Society for Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (TSPCA).

While the dog is showing signs of recovery, it has 70% burn injury, and the bones of her right limbs are exposed, said TSPCA officials. The reward has been announced by Humane Society International, Indiaand Thane SPCA.

President of TSPCA, Shakuntala Majumdar, said cruelty cases are rising. “It’s unfathomable that the abuser had to pour hot water to shoo her away. We urge people to come forward with info about the culprit.”

Managing director of Humane Society of India, N G Jayasimha, said the case exposes the abuser’s “skewed mentality”.
