A circular was issued by the UIDAI on September 23, 2022. UIDAI said, “In this regard, a few ‘Do’s and Dont’s’ are described below that citizens may observe while providing their Aadhaar numbers.”

DO’s

  • Aadhaar is your digital identity. Whenever there is a need to present proof of identity, then you can use it with full confidence.
  • If you are sharing Aadhaar number somewhere, then take the same precautions as you take in sharing your mobile number, bank account number, passport, Voter ID, UAN, ration card, etc.
  • Your consent will definitely be sought at the place where you are sharing the Aadhaar number. It will also be written on the copy of Aadhaar for which work Aadhaar is being taken.
  • If the Aadhaar number does not want to be shared with anyone, then UIDAI provides the facility of Virtual Identifier (VID) for this. You can easily generate VID and share it in lieu of Aadhaar. After a day, this VID gets changed.
  • You can view the Aadhaar authentication history for the last six months on the mAadhaar app or on the UIDAI website. Keep checking it from time to time.
  • UIDAI provides Aadhaar authentication information through email. Therefore it is necessary to link Aadhaar with email Id. With this, whenever Aadhaar is authenticated, you will get the information on your mail.
  • There are many facilities available with OTP-based Aadhaar authentication. So always keep the mobile number updated with Aadhaar.
  • UIDAI provides the facility of Aadhaar Locking and Biometric Locking. If you do not use Aadhaar for a long time, then you can lock Aadhaar or biometrics. When Aadhaar is to be used, it can be easily unlocked.
  • If you believe that Aadhaar has been misused, you can contact the UIDAI toll free number 1947. This line is open around the clock and seven days. If you want, you can write a complaint at help@uidai.gov.in.

DONT’s

  • Do not leave your Aadhaar letter/PVC or its copy unattended.
  • Avoid sharing openly on open domain (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Do not share Aadhaar OTP to any unauthorized entity.
  • Do not share m-Aadhaar with any person.
