For the ongoing bypoll, the name, as well as the symbol, cannot be used by the faction of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde or of Uddhav Thackeray. Until a final order is passed by the Election Commission over the dispute between both of them, the EC decided on Saturday to freeze the symbol and the name. Hence, for the ongoing Andheri-East bypoll, both factions will be unable to use the symbol or the name.
The Election Commission said in an interim order that both factions can use another name of their choice and will be given alternate symbols. On October 10 by 1p.m, both the factions are said to submit their choice of name and symbol to the Commission.
