An autorickshaw driver allegedly murdered his wife before committing suicide at Jogeshwari West on Saturday evening. The incident took place in the presence of their three young children.
A case of murder has been registered against the accused, Rajesh Jadhav, at Amboli police station. The police said that the couple may have had financial problems, though the exact motive is not clear.
Jadhav lived in Hawaldar chawl near SV Road with his wife, Amrapali, their 4-year-old son and two daughters aged 2 and 1. Around 4pm on Saturday, he is believed to have strangled his wife before hanging himself from the ceiling fan.
One of the neighbours heard the children crying for a long time. When the neighbour went to Jadhav’s house to check, he discovered the bodies, and alerted the police.
The police said that Jadhav and his wife had had a fight that day. A suicide note was recovered from the house. Jadhav had written, in Marathi, that he did not blame anyone for his actions. The bodies were sent for an autopsy.
