The University Grants Commission is planning to change the way students are assessed in universities and colleges. It will be made sure by this fresh system that there is a common framework among the students across colleges that will be based on learning systems. With this, it will be an easy shift for students from one course to another or one college to another college.

Until now, the students were assessed on the level of 5-10. According to the current system, level 5 stands for certificate level, level 6 stands for diplomas, level 8 stands for undergraduate courses and level 9 stands for PG diplomas. According to the new policy, a student will end their first year of their undergraduate course or will be eligible for a certificate at competencies of 4.5 level.

This new scale has been created keeping in line with the proposed four year UG programme structure. The goal of this is also to accommodate few other provisions falling under NEP under which the students belonging from different streams can opt for different degree programmes at one time or can simultaneously study at two colleges or can also enter or exit a particular course at any point.
