On Friday night, the famous clock tower at Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar was illuminated in Indian tricolour flag, ahead of Independence day.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu took to Twitter to share a photograph of the clock tower.

This is the first time that the clock tower was illuminated in tricolour. In 1992 BJP president, Murli Manohar Joshi and coordinator of the Ekta Yatra Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolour flag at Lal Chowk for the first time.

Lal Chowk is one of the sensitive areas of Jammu and Kashmir. There was a time when hosting a tricolour flag was not allowed at Lal Chowk at Srinagar.
