Security at Maharashtra CM’s house increased after a call from “Dawood’s man’

An anonymous man reportedly called up Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s personal residence ‘Matoshree’ in Bandra, saying that he was calling from Dubai on behalf of fugitive underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, a police official said on Sunday.

“Someone called upon ‘Matoshree’ phone number two times on Saturday night and said Dawood Ibrahim wanted to talk to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. However, the telephone operator did not transfer the call to the chief minister,” the official said.

“The caller did not reveal his identity, but only said that he was calling from Dubai on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim. Both the calls were received around 10.30 pm,” he added.

The local police were later informed about the calls, following which extra security force was deployed outside Matoshree, additional police personnel was rushed to the residence for the same.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab dismissed reports which said that the caller gave threats to blow up the chief minister’s residence.

Addressing to which he stated,

“There was an anonymous caller at Matoshree, who said that he is from the Dawood gang and he wanted to speak to the chief minister. This is the primary information. The caller did not threaten to blow up Matoshree. We have informed the police about the phone calls. Police are investigating to see who called (at Matoshree), why, and whether he is really connected with the Dawood gang. So far, nobody has dared to give such threats and the government will not let the person go scot-free”

He further added that the state government will ensure adequate security to the chief minister.

“The police department will take appropriate measures about the chief minister’s security. The CM’s security is reviewed from time to time. It is also done before the start of the Assembly session. The CM has been provided adequate security that will be continued further,”

With efforts underway to trace the unidentified caller, talking to PTI, a top police official said, “We are trying to verify whether the calls received were from Dubai or some other place. The investigation is on.”
