Recently,the University of Mumbai received Rs. 5 crore as a grant from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shikshan Abhiyan in this current financial year. This grant especially will be used to set up E-learning facilities and will also be used to develop the existing infrastructure on the campus.

This grant of Rs.5 crore is in addition to Rs.1.2 crore received as research grants. The grants has been donated by an alumnus to Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy.

Suhas Pednekar, the university’s vice chancellor made this announcement during the online convocation ceremony which was held on Monday. Over 1.9 lakh students have graduated this year.

While reading the annual report, Pednekar said that the university has shortlisted 10 start ups that will be working from the incubation centre on the campus. He also added that the number of autonomous colleges have increased from being 36 in the previous year to 40 in this year.Pednekar proposed to implement the ‘school concept’ (setting up schools of engineering, management etc) to enhance interdisciplinary research, academic exchange and collaborations.

A total 140 PhDs and M Phils were awarded along with which 16 medals were given to students with excellent performances in their respective subjects.

While presiding over the convocation ceremony, governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari urged the students to become investors creators and creators of wealth and even appealed to them to get acquainted with emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
