The first electric double-decker air-conditioned bus was introduced by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). It was on Thursday when India’s first electric double-decker bus was unveiled in Mumbai by Union Minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari. Reports say that the rest of the buses will be on the roads by the mid of next year.
Nitin Gadkari took to Twitter to announce this launch saying “Ushering Sustainable-Revolution! It gives me immense pleasure to launch the Ashok Leyland’s Electric Double Decker Bus in Mumbai today.”
Further, he also wrote, “Giving Dynamic Boost to the sustainable transportation sector, such initiatives are cost-effective solutions and achieve PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of #AatmanirbharBharat by cutting down oil imports and promoting indigenous resources and services.”
