On Sunday, the Shiv Sena-led BMC inaugurated a welfare centre for Mumbai’s tiffin suppliers, thus, fulfilling a promise made prior to the last civic elections back in 2017. Bandra West is where the Dabbewala Bhavan is located.
To set up the Bhavan, the 2020-21 civic budget had a provision of 1 crore, however, the proposal was stalled by the BMC stating that there is no space available.
A senior BMC official has said that the Dabbewala Bhavan has been allotted within a built-up space. “BMC’s allotment policy allows such spaces at civic welfare centres to be allotted to NGO’s for other similar causes,” the official explained; as stated by The Times Of India.
