On Monday, all the taxi aggregators including Ula and Uber were directed by the Bombay High Court to apply for a license to ply. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Vinay Joshi said that the “law has to be followed.”

The Centre, in 2019 had amended section 92(1) Motor Vehicles Act,1888 adding the aggregators in the category of the ones requiring licenses. After this, the Central Government had framed the Motor Vehicles Aggregators Guidelines, 2020.

It has been directed that the aggregators shall apply for a license by March 16. The judges have said, “It is made clear that if an application is rejected, such plying aggregator shall not be allowed to carry on future activities in Maharashtra.”
