Maharashtra has been the worst hit case by the pandemic and has lost a lot of Citizens to the deadly Coronavirus. Recently, the caseload in the state has started to reduce and the vaccination drive has been running smoothly. Amidst this, Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had announced that the schools in the state will begin Offline classes from 17th August for students of 8th to 12th class.

The reopening of physical classes came as a shock to the parents as the children of that age group haven’t been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik pointed out that in certain other states like Punjab, where schools were allowed to reopen, there was a sharp increase in the number of juvenile Covid patients.

Yesterday, Mumbai saw its first death by the Delta Plus Variant of Covid-19, making it even more dangerous for people to step out.

Keeping this in mind, Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that it is upto the local officials to decide whether physical classes should resume at schools.
