It has been decided by the Centre to raise the legal age of marriage of women from 18 to 21 and is likely to move the legislative amendment in the winter session of the parliament.
The government may introduce an amendment to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and may bring amendments to the Special Marriage Act and personal laws like the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
The bill may also include amendments to various personal laws regarding the marriage of various communities to make sure about the uniform age of marriage.
