  • Critics and the audience have garnered overwhelmingly positive responses to The Family Man 2.
  • “Amazon Prime Video should stop the show voluntarily, if not Tamil people will boycott all business services of Amazon worldwide,” said Bharathiraja.

On Monday, filmmaker Bharathiraja issued a statement to seek ban on the recently launched Prime Video’s hit thriller series, The Family Man.

Bharathiraja said that, “We are upset with the Indian government for not passing the order to stop the streaming of the second season of The Family Man, despite our request. The scenes in the show reveal that this series has been made by those who do not know the history of Tamil Eelam fighters. I condemn the show that insults the rebellion that was filled with good intentions, valour, and great sacrifices. I request Information and Broadcast Minister Prakash Javadekar to immediately stop the streaming of the show.”

Further, he alleged that, “As we all know, this show continues to show people from Tamil, Muslim and Bengali communities in a bad light.”

“Amazon Prime Video should stop the show voluntarily, if not Tamil people will boycott all business services of Amazon worldwide,” said Bharathiraja.

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman had made the same request a day before Bharathiraja’s statement. Seeman and Bharathiraja have said that they will boycott Amazon products.

Seeman has written to Aparna Purohit, who is the Head of India Originals, Amazon Prime Video and has alleged that the series depicts Tamils in a “vulgar” fashion. He has also urged the Tamil Nadu government to intervene and ban the web series.

Seeman has requested Amazon to “stop streaming The Family Man 2 web series, which misrepresents Thamizhs and distorts the valorous Eezham liberation struggle of Thamizhs”. He went on to add: “If you fail to do so and ignore and disrespect our emotions, we Thamizhs across the globe may have to lead a massive campaign worldwide to boycott all Amazon services, including Prime Video”.

He said that he was shocked to see the “vulgar depiction of Thamizhs in the web series in concern, whose valorous Thamizh Eezham freedom struggle has been portrayed cheaply, intending to tarnish Thamizhs’ image”, Seeman alleged that the web series sounds like “the voice of the Sinhala government”.

Seeman has been campaigning for the ban on The Family Man Season 2 since its trailer released, alleged that the series has been made “as an attempt to humiliate and hurt the sentiments of the 12-crore Thamizh nationals who could not able to recover from the massive structural genocide of this century” (sic). He added in his letter that 11 years since the “mass Thamizh genocide took place when no international trial over the war crimes or referendum was held.”

On the other side, Family Man 2 has received positive response from the critics and the audience.
