Aarey trees trimmed, detained protestors released after 10 hours

On Monday morning, large and low branches of trees were trimmed in the Aarey Milk Colony which was under a tight protection by the police. Amid this, four protestors were detained for clicking images. On 24 July, the detained, named Tabrez Sayyed and Jayesh Bhise were sent CrPC notices.

It was claimed by the metro authorities that the branches were trimmed to ease the entry of heavy vehicles. The place is seeing not just tight police protection but people and vehicles saw restrictions too. Only the residents of the area were allowed to enter after checking their IDs.

In October 2020, the then CM Uddhav Thackeray had announced that the metro car shed will shift from Aarey Colony to Kanjurmarg in which the “land will be available at a zero rate”.
