Minister Narayan Rane has said that an online survey conducted by the National Small Industries Corporation Ltd has found out that about 9% of micro, small and medium enterprises have closed down due to Covid-19.
When asked about the alarming increase in the number of suicides by the owners of MSMEs, Rane said that according to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 9,052 business owners have committed suicide in 2019. In 2021, the number has increased to 11,716.
When asked about providing support to the MSMEs, Rane said that loans amounting to Rs.2.82 lakh crore have been sanctioned to businesses that also include MSMEs under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme.
