Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, said on Wednesday that the Centre would provide two crore doses of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccines to states this month.

The health minister also urged states to vaccinate all school teachers before September 5, when India celebrates Teachers’ Day. On Wednesday, 25 August 2021, Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister, stated in a hindi tweet “In addition to the plan to provide vaccines to every state this month, more than 2 crore vaccine doses are being made available. We have requested all states to try to vaccinate all school teachers on priority before Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated on September 5.

In March last year 2020, schools across the country were closed as part of a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of a novel coronavirus infection.

In October last year 2020, the Centre authorised the reopening of schools in accordance with the COVID-19 situation. While several states began partial school reopenings, there was another complete closure in April when an aggressive second wave of COVID-19 struck the country.

With the COVID-19 situation improving, several states have begun reopening schools, despite concerns that the staff and teachers have not been fully vaccinated.
