On Sunday, India called for an immediate de-escalation of the extreme situation that is currently taking place in Israel and Palestine. During the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Meeting, India happened to finally adopt a balanced view in the ongoing conflict. India announced a Strong Support to ‘Just Palestinian Cause’. Despite of this, India has condemned firing of rockets into Israel by the Hamas terrorist group and described Israeli actions as retaliatory.

The statement came amidst the violence that continues in the region that began this month from May 7 following weeks-long tension between the two sides of Israel and Palestine.

India’s Permananent representative at the UNSC was T S Tirumurti who requested the two countries to immediately get back on communication grounds and also mentioned that New Delhi supports the two-state solution.

India has supported the diplomatic efforts of the Quartet and other members of the international community. This is to calm the situation and put an end to the ongoing violence and lead a peaceful conversation about the differences.

“Jerusalem has a special place in the hearts of millions of Indians, who visit the city every year,” Tirumurti said. “The Old City also houses the Al Zawiyya Al Hindiyya – the Indian Hospice, which is a historic place associated with a great Indian Sufi saint Baba Farid and located inside the Old City. India has restored this Indian Hospice” he added.

“In conclusion, I reiterate India’s strong support to the just Palestinian cause and its unwavering commitment to the two-state solution,” Tirumurti concluded.
