Orders were issued by the Telangana State Government to enhance the Scheduled tribe reservation from 6% to 10% starting today, October 1. The applicability of the ST quota will be in educational institutions and government jobs.
A bill was passed nearly six years ago by the Telangana State Legislative Assembly hiking the reservations for the tribals in Telangana. The bill was sent out to the Union Government for Presidential approval.
Recently, the news of a hike in ST reservations was announced by the Chief Minister of Telangana so as to ensure justice to the tribals – who make up about 10% of the Telangana population. The orders were issued on Friday evening.
