The Railways will start running 80 additional trains from September 12, which are in addition to the 230 special passenger trains that are currently operational.
Railway Board Chairman V.K. Yadav, recently appointed as the first CEO of the Board, told reporters that they were planning to run “clone or duplicate trains” on popular routes to eliminate waiting lists.
“Eighty new special trains or 40 pairs of trains will start operations from September 12. Reservations will begin from September 10…after notifying these trains we will continue to monitor the occupancy and wherever we feel that waiting list is for a longer duration of time, there is a demand for that particular train, we will be running a clone train. These will run ahead of the existing train, so that passengers can book a ticket in it.”
Stated K.YADAV, he further added
“The timetable has been on for more than 50 years and it is being started with a clean slate. The timetable is being made for the benefit of passengers and some trains there may be changes in schedule. The objective is to increase average speed and remove congestion on the railway network,”
These trains will run in addition to the 230 trains, which are currently operational.
He said that the Railways are in touch with state governments and wherever trains will be required for exams, the national transporter will provide services.
However, no decision has been taken yet on the addition or removal of trains and stations.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Railways will not provide linen and blankets to passengers in AC coaches.
The timings will be as per the regular trains. Stoppages will be restricted and will be taken into consideration after discussions with the respective State governments.
