Mukesh Ambani is no more Asia’s richest person as Chinese ‘Bottled Water Billionaire’ Zhong Shanshan has come up as a ‘private’ billionaire who has rarely quoted in the press. After a not so linear career span in Journalism, Mushroom Farming and Health Care, Zhong became Asia’s richest person overtaking India’s Mukesh Ambani and a group of Chinese tech titans including Jack Ma.
The two-year reign of Mukesh Ambani as the richest person of the Asian Continent has finally come to an end. The bottled water billionaire and also a vaccine investor, Zhong Shanshan has become the wealthiest person said a Bloomberg report.
Shanshan’s fortune grew by more than $70 billion in 2020, putting his net worth at an estimated $77.8 billion, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index. After Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, Shanshan is currently the world’s 11th richest person and even when Ambani has lost the top spot, he is not far behind: The Reliance Industries chairman is still worth $76.9 billion.
Termed as the “Lone Wolf”, 66-year-old Zhong isn’t involved in politics and his business interests aren’t entangled with other rich families such as the property tycoons. Zhong’s success story involves two poled fields. He took vaccine maker Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co. public in April, then months later Nongfu Spring Co., a maker of bottled water, became one of Hong Kong’s hottest listings. Nongfu shares have jumped 155% since their debut, and Wantai’s are up more than 2,000%.
Mukesh Ambani has also have a year of fortunes. With the extraordinary year – Ambani has had striking deals to transform his conglomerate Reliance Industries Ltd. into a technology and e-commerce titan. The conglomerates fortune surged $18.3 billion to $76.9 billion.
