World’s Highest Railway Bridge – Chenab Bridge’s Golden Joint inaugurated

It was on 13  September 2022, when the World’s Highest Railway Bridge – The Chenab Golden Bridge’s Joint was inaugurated. The Golden Joint is such that it connects two ends of the deck of that railway bridge. The bridge surpasses the Eiffel Tower by 35 metres.

The completion of the Bridge was pointed out by the Ministry of Railways in their tweet that said, “The Golden Joint: Deck launching work of the world’s highest Railway Arch Bridge, Chenab Bridge completed. 

The bridge is 1,315 metres long. The bridge took 1,300+ workers and nearly 300 engineers to get it completed. The Chenab Bridge is the highest Railway Bridge – 359m above the river bed level. According to the Centre, the Chenab Bridge was built at Rs.1,486 crore. The Bridge is designed in a way that it can withstand high wind speed of upto 266 Km/Hr and its design life is at least 120 years. The bridge will stay operational at a speed of 30 Km/Hr.
