The officials aware of the matter have said that the Centre may soon allow private as well as corporate funding for India’s Wildlife conservation by forming a national level public trust.
Officials have also said that the Centre would soon invite opinions of the forest officials throughout the country which will also include chief wildlife wardens of states, conservationists, experts and NGOs. Before giving shape to the foundation, a committee will be formed that will be studying the suggestions.
Raman Kumar, an ecologist also attended the meeting and he said “This is a very good idea, but the government has to ensure that the corporate sector does not have a disproportionate say in the decision-making process.”
