The official sources have said that during PM Modi’s visit in the first week of January, PM will inaugurate the long-awaited water taxi service from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. Along with this, PM will also inaugurate a chemical terminal at the Mumbai Port Trust which has been operational since October and will also perform the groundbreaking ceremony for another chemical terminal at the port.
The water taxi will cut the commuting time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, it was first planned three decades ago. But, it was taken up seriously in the past few years as a part of the Centre’s inland waterways initiative.
The water taxis will be transporting commuters between Mumbai and two Navi Mumbai jetties and will also include a stop at JNPT. Another service will take commuters from Mumbai and Rewas in the Raigad district. The fare is not meant for the daily commuters.
