UNESCO calls for protection of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage

On Thursday, UNESCO called for the protection of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage following the Taliban’s take over of the Country.

 

UNESCO in a statement said, “Afghanistan is a home to a wide range of rich and diverse heritage, which is an integral part of Afghan history and identity, as well as importance for humanity as whole, that must be safeguarded.”

 

This includes sites such as the Old City of Herat, Minaret and archeological remains of Jam and the Cultural Landscape and Archeological remains of the Bamiyan Valley as well as museums including National Museums in Kabul.
