Top officials have told The Economic Times that very soon newborn infants will also receive a temporary Aadhaar Number that can be renewed with biometric data at the time of majority. This process will also combine the data along with death registration records to avoid any mishaps of government data through the Aadhaar number of the deceased.
Since its launch in 2010, the world’s largest biometric data has enrolled almost all of the Indian adult population, and now, it looks forward to expanding its ambit, covering the lifecycle of a person, from birth to death.
Aadhar numbers have been provided, since its launch to most of the adult Indian population, covering the age group of 5-18 years, which stands at an estimation of 93%, however, only a quarter of the infants falling under the age of 5 are registered.
