On Friday, the University Grants Commission, well known as UGC released a notice for the public which mentioned the implementation of BLENDED MODE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING in the universities.
The BLENDED MODE had been discussed upon in the 547th meeting of the UGC and after the approval, it has now been implemented.
What is the BLENDED MODE?
- Blended Mode of Teaching and Learning includes a maximum of up to 40% of courses through the online platform Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM).
- 60% of the courses will be taught offline.
- The examination for both 40% and 60% courses can be conducted offline.
- The advantages of the Mode for students include increased learning skills, greater access to information, improved satisfaction and learning outcomes, and opportunities both to learn with others and to teach others.
- Due to this, the teacher’s will now be a coach and a mentor and not just a knowledge provider.
- This mode, in short, combines the best aspects of online learning with direct instruction.
An expert committee was constituted by the UGC in order to prepare the Blended Mode of Teaching and Learning concept. It has asked stakeholders to send their suggestions on or before June 6.
“The UGC constituted an expert committee to prepare a concept note on the blended mode of teaching. The draft concept note is available for comments/suggestions of stakeholders, if any, which may be sent to UGC on policyfeedbackugc@gmail.com on or before June 6, 2021,” Rajnish Jain, secretary, UGC, said in a statement.
The UGC, in the month of March had permitted the colleges and universities to offer up to 40 per cent of the syllabus of a programme in a semester online through the e-learning platform SWAYAM.
The institutions are asked to amend the said rules and regulation within 4 weeks for “seamless integration through SWAYAM based online courses.”
“This provision may be created over and above up to 40 per cent of online education permissible for SWAYAM courses,” the commission has said in its notification.
